Physiotherapy - Chiropractic - Podiatry
Chiropractic and Physiotherapy
Chiropractic is a combination of art, science and tradition and it is well known since the early days of Hippocrates. Chiropractic deals with musculoskeletal conditions of the spine and both the upper and the lower limbs. It is a well established science and it can be taught in numerus international academical institutions around the globe. Chiropractic doesn’t use medicines and / or medical therapeutic equipment. The chiropractic treatment is mainly done by hand. The main goal of chiropractic is to stimulate the nervous system throughout specific manipulating techniques called “adjustments”.
Physiotherapy on the other hand is a therapeutic method that relies mainly on physical modalities such light, water, movement, and electricity. Going back in time, human beings have been using all these physical modalities for centuries, but only after the first and second world war started using it for therapeutic purposes.
Today both sciences above are very well known around the world and the common question that very rises to the public is “which one to choose between the two?”. Very often the answer is “a combination of both”.
Physiotherapy acts mainly in the soft tissues of the human body, whilst chiropractic is more related to bones and joints. So, the combination brings structural balance, analgesia and biomechanical alignment by stimulating the nervous system.
Podiatry and Physiotherapy
The harmonious connection between chiropractic and physiotherapy is complemented by another science, very important for the musculoskeletal system, Podiatry. Podiatry is a newer specialty that deals mainly with the foot.
The ankle joint, the toes, the sole and the other anatomical elements that make up the foot, are very important structures as they are the foundation of the body. Any pathology or abnormality in the human foundation causes disorders, not only in this part of the foot, but also in the rest of the body (knee, hip, waist, even neck!).
Podiatry ensures the proper biomechanics of the anatomical elements involved in posture and gait. This way, either treats or prevents various diseases, but also prevents complications in the human musculoskeletal system.
Clinical evaluation in combination with the electronic gait analysis system, are the basic diagnostic supplies of a podiatrist. The gait analysis is divided into static and dynamic. The patient first stands and then walks on an analysis platform with thousands of digital sensors. Then, the data of the examination is collected and a special pair of orthotics is made which is placed inside the patient's shoes, to restore the proper biomechanics of the lower limb and foot and consequently the rest of the body.
The Physiotherapy center Supreme Physio Lab and the Center for Chiropractic and Podiatry are connected and cooperate perfectly under the supervision of Mr. Evangelos Dimou. These three specialties, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic and Podiatry, complement each other and work together. With very careful evaluation, the patients are guided in the right direction and enjoy the most appropriate form of treatment, whether it includes individual or complex and more complicated treatment protocols.
